The mind is the master of our earthly ego. It is the means by which we progress in this earthly, human, materialistic world. The heart is the master of our eternal spirit. It is the means by which we progress through our eternal existence. It is the means by which we illuminate this earthly world with spiritual essence. Love – love brings light to all. Our heart always knows the answers, knows our dreams, and knows the best path by which to reach them. It is when our ego is afraid, afraid of failure, afraid of disillusionment or of the challenge, that we call in the “voice of reason” to justify not taking such a naive or risky or impossible path. It is our fear that persuades us to listen to our minds over our hearts, and that same fear that forces us to give up faith in our dreams.
It is with new awareness that I recognize what a powerful and necessary element curiosity is in our lives. I guess I always took my curious nature for granted, never even stopping to realize it, much less name it. I’ve just always wanted to learn more, see more, experience more; finding with every answered question another hundred questions to ask. It is the partnering of curiosity and confidence that can beat down the fears that keep us from exploring new horizons. I always thought it just took confidence to face the unknown, but one must first have the curiosity to even want to face the unknown.
What is it about growing up that squeezes the essence of curiosity out of people’s souls? Children are innately curious – they want to see, taste, touch, smell, hear, know everything. How many times do we shout them down? (Don’t put that in your mouth, it’s dirty. Don’t pick that up, its yucky.) Before we drive the desire to explore out of them? What happens to people as they grow older that they become so full of their responsibilities that they forget the joy of chasing the will o’ the wisps? Hell, they often won’t even stop at a new store or restaurant that they have seen but never experienced. Why are we so grounded in a fear of failure or experiences gone awry that we won’t try something new, go a different, path, experience a new restaurant even without confirmation from others first?
